BBC Includes Momina Mustehsan In Top 100 Influential Women List 2017
Momina Mustehsan is a renowned name in Pakistani music industry. She has been appreciated for her contribution in music and her philanthropy works by one and all.
Now Momina has another star on her shoulder as she is included among the top 100 influential women list 2017.
BBC has revealed the top 60 women in its list of 100 inspirational and innovative women for 2017. This year the women in the list will take part in the 100 women challenge who will combat some major challenges faced by women on planet earth. The women will come together in four themes including
The glass ceiling – #Teamlead,
Female illiteracy – #Teamread,
Street harassment – #Teamgo,
Sexism in sport – #Teamplay
They will also share their experience and create innovative ways to tackle these issues. The basic reason behind this annual series is highlighting issues that women all over the world face and to encourage them to strive for change. The women in the list the global wealth of talent found in the females.
Other women included in the list include 21-year-old Pakistani model Resham Khan, NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, 16-year-old Iraqi student Zainab Fadhal, uiiIndian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqi’s mother Mehrunninsa Siddiqi, Indian Women Cricket Team’s captain Mithali Raj and Indian writer Ira Trivedi among others.
The profile on the BBC website shows Momina as a musician, engineer, mathematician, and an ambassador for a cricket team of Islamabad.
It also includes a quote from Momina that says: “The quote that helped me the most with my life was: It only gets better when you get better. Would you believe I found this inside a New York takeaway fortune cookie when I was binge-eating my way through depression? That woke me up”

The 25-year-old singer rose to fame when she marked her debut in Coke Studio Season 9 where she performed a version of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s “Afreen Afreen” with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The song became the most sought out song of Coke Studio season 9 and Momina received critical appreciation for her singing as well. Although she has been a part of the music industry since 2004 but “Afreen Afreen” was her ticket to fame.
Momina is the ambassador of Pakistan Super League’s Team Islamabad United. She released the anthem “Cricket Jorey Pakistan” for the team in February 2017.
Momina is also the face of Sprite’s ad campaign along with singer Daniyal Zafar.
Hailing from an army background, the young lass is a philanthropist at heart. She has plans to start a distant education program for the children belonging to the rural areas of our country. She is also planning to lend her help to the polio campaign.
